Nobel Laureate Jody Williams' Message to Chevron's 2020 Shareholder Meeting

In this powerful message to Chevron shareholders, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Jody Williams calls on the company to make good on its $9.5 billion in liability for toxic oil pollution in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Williams submitted this message in advance on behalf of Newground Social Investment in Seattle, to be played to Chevron shareholders during the company's annual meeting on May 27, 2020. In it, Williams presents shareholder proposal #9 "Special Meetings", which Newground filed on behalf of clients who own Chevron stock. Williams and 28 other Nobel Laureates recently signed an open letter in support of the 30,000 indigenous victims of Chevron's toxic dumping, and calling on the company to stop persecuting human rights lawyer Steven Donziger, who was instrumental in the lawsuit that resulted in the Ecuador judgment.
